Winter 2025/26 Newsletter

Mid Essex Diabetes Support Group: Winter 2025-26 Highlights

The Winter Newsletter pays tribute to Joan Sharpe, who was one of our longest serving Committee members.  Joan sadly passed away on 19 October 2025. Joan was instrumental in organising our annual fundraising event (The Essex Young Farmers Show).

The Newsletter extracts important statistics that appear in Balance (Diabetes UK’s quarterly publication).

The Newsletter provides useful information on how to keep warm in the Winter months, or if you go on holiday country that has a cold climate.

The publication gives an update on our most recent ‘Donate to a Discovery’ project called, ‘Growing Stem Cells into Beta Cells for transplantation.’  It’ll be interesting to see how this project progresses. Fingers crossed it will lead to the harvesting of stem cells from an individual and the transfer back into that individual, thus negating the need for insulin therapy.

We were excited to hear from Neil Gibson about Diabetes and Exercise. It was a subject that we hadn’t previously explored. We hope you enjoy the read.

Dr Giulia De Rossi is one step closer in finding a new Retinopathy Treatment. The project outcomes look hopeful in preventing people living with diabetes going blind.  Please read the article as it brings much promise.
